TOC Asia 2011 is delighted to announce that this year’s Keynote Address will be given by Mr Wei Jianguo, Secretary-General of China Center for International Economic Exchanges, and Former Vice Minister of Commerce.
A trained economist, Mr Wei has had a long and distinguished career in various governmental departments and in China’s overseas diplomatic service. Mr Wei is a Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) which advised the Chinese government on the drafting of the Eleventh Five-Year Development Guidelines. He is also a driving force behind moves to rebalance China’s external trade by promoting greater numbers of containerised imports. This is expected to be a key strategy of the Twelfth Five-Year Development Guidelines.
As Secretary-General of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), founded in 2009, Mr Wei oversees the association’s mission of promoting international economic research and exchanges and providing consulting services.
Rebalancing China’s external trade has huge implications for the global maritime and port industry: in short it implies greater numbers of full containers landed in China, leading to a domino effect along the entire container logistics chain. Container yards and equipment configurations will have to be rethought to accommodate the end of “one-directional” FCL flows as China migrates to a multi-directional supply chain economy.
This wholesale shift in China’s trade relations is a key theme for TOC Asia 2011. On Day Two of the event, the ‘Deliver China’ research paper compiled by the Global Institute of Logistics (GIL) in conjunction with the CCIEE, will be unveiled at a day-long seminar dedicated to examining the business strategies necessary to profit from China’s coming import boom.
